How to Get Shit Done - A Series

For the past seven years or so, I've been a little obsessed with productivity and habits.


It all started because I was working a full time job and trying to work on my freelance translation business at the same time. I was struggling to follow through on my business goals, even though freelance translation had been my dream since I was 18 (spoiler: It was not seven years ago that I was 18).


Along the way, I've learned a lot. In this blog series, I'll share some things that were helpful to me. I hope you find them helpful and interesting, too!



The first four posts are taken from my free e-book, How to Get Shit Done, A Workbook for Entrepreneurs (download here), and discuss two things I love: self-examination and habits.


"But wait," you say, "you said we were going to talk about getting shit done!"


And we are! These posts are all about that, too. Productivity is the sparkly result of the much less sexy habits. And the first step to habit change is self-awareness.



Reading about successful people’s habit hacks is great, but instead of taking all those tips and throwing them at the wall to see what sticks, I prefer a more deliberate approach, taking steps to gain more self-awareness to find out how you specifically are built.


At the same time, I'll provide lots of habit suggestions so that you can choose the ones that best work with your personality.


Finally, I'll share resources to go deeper into each subject if you choose.


Many of the examples I’ve provided are from my own life and what works for me and are based on my (frankly awesome) personality. You may be tempted to think, that doesn’t apply to me. But my examples will help you find your own strategies. You may have a visceral reaction to my habit structures – either oh my god, why have I never tried that? or, yeah, that’s not gonna work for me, lady. Both are useful. They'll point you towards what will work for you.
